PM Ismail Haniya Letter to President George W. Bush
June 6, 2006
Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States
Dear Mr. President,
We are an elected government which came into office through a democratic process, and would like the United States to show respect for our people’s choice.
We are so concerned about stability and security in the area that we are prepared to establish a Palestinian State in the 1967 territories and to offer a truce for many years.
We are not war mongers. We are peace makers, and we call on the American government to have direct negotiations with the elected government. And we urge the United States to end the boycott because the continuation of this situation will encourage violence and chaos in the whole region.
We are deeply interested in stability in the area and don’t want anyone to escalate the situation.
We hope the United States will encourage the Israelis to keep stability and security in the region.
Ismail Haniya
Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority
